About Satynmag

Created for women. Built to keep evolving with them.

Satynmag began in Sri Lanka in 1998 as a women's magazine in print. Today, it has grown into a wider platform bringing together editorial content, career and personal growth, workplace recognition and practical initiatives designed around the realities of women's lives.

Our story

The format changed. The purpose did not.

Satynmag has lived through a changing media landscape by continuing to ask the same basic question: what is useful to women now?

Where it began

A Sri Lankan women's magazine launched before digital publishing changed everything.

Satynmag began in print in 1998. It was created as a space for women's stories, ideas and everyday realities at a time when the media environment looked very different from the one women navigate today.

1998Satynmag launches

Survival required reinvention — not abandoning what Satyn stood for.

In 2013, Satynmag moved from print to digital. The platform changed, but the reason for publishing did not: to speak to women in a way that recognised their ambitions, responsibilities, questions and changing lives.

Over time, that meant broadening the conversation. Satynmag now covers career development, entrepreneurship, lifestyle, health, relationships, motherhood, mental wellbeing and the issues that influence how women live and work.

It also meant moving beyond publishing. Satyn Circle extends learning into practical career and personal growth. The Women-Friendly Workplace Awards brought Satyn into the workplace conversation. Certification develops that work into a longer process of assessment, progress and accountability.

Our editorial purpose

Useful before inspirational.

Satynmag is at its strongest when an article gives a woman something she can understand, use, question or carry into the next part of her life. The subject may change. The standard should not.

Founder's vision

Build something women can actually use.

Satynmag was founded by Nayomini Weerasooriya, an entrepreneur who began building businesses in Sri Lanka in the mid-1990s and launched Satynmag in 1998. Her journey has taken the publication through print, digital reinvention and into a wider platform focused on women's growth and workplace progress.

The point is not only to tell women they can grow. It is to build the knowledge, networks and systems that make growth more possible.

What guides us

A simple standard for everything Satyn builds.

  • See women as whole people

Career, family, health, ambition, relationships and identity do not exist in isolation. Satyn reflects that.

  • Make the conversation useful

Good content should leave a reader with clearer thinking, practical knowledge, or a better question to ask next.

  • Move beyond slogans

Women's progress is stronger when knowledge, opportunity, recognition and accountability work together.
